The effect of different concentrations (0.25 mM and 0.5 mM) of Cu
2+
on growth, anatomical parameters, malondialdehyde
(MDA) content, photosynthetic pigments were investigated in hydroponically grown five barley (
Triticumaestivum
L.)
varieties (Kazakhstan skayarannaya Kazakhstanskaya-3, Melturn, Kaiyr and Shagala). Wheat varieties exposed to 0.5 mM
Cu2+ exhibited significant growth reduction. The results showed that growth, anatomical and biochemical parameters were
significantly reduced at 0.5 mMCu
2+
, compared to untreated control plants. Tolerant and sensitive to Cu
2+
wheat varieties were
identified. MDA content in tolerant variety was less compared with sensitive to copper ones.In tolerant varietyphotosynthetic
pigments (chlorophyll-
a
, chlorophyll-
b
, carotenoids) content decreased in less extent compared with sensitive varieties.
