Abstract
Protruding ears are minor, but the most common congenital external ear deformity. Genetic inheritance follows variable penetrance. This report outcome following incisionless Otoplasty, a minimally invasive surgical technique that can be used to treat protruding ears. We retrospectively reviewed patients (n=12) who underwent an incisionless otoplasty by a single surgeon between April 2011 and May 2014 at the Yunus Emre Goverment Hospital. Surgical results were assessed by using preand post-operative protrusion measurements, and complication rates. Research Ethics Board approval was granted through the same hospital. Descriptive statistics were reported. Twelve patients (mean age 23.8±4.7 years) underwent an incisionless otoplasty with an average follow-up of 40.7-8.6 weeks . Pre- and post-operative measurements, respectively, for both ears combined were 25.3 mm and 16.1 mm at the level of the most superior helical point, 28.4 mm and 16.7 mm at the superior conchal attachment, 26.2 mm and 16.9 mm at the inferior conchal attachment, and 15.8 mm and 15.1 mm at the lobule. Only one patient exhibited asymmetry necessitating revision surgery. Two patient extruded sutures, one of which experienced localized suture abscesses. No patients developed post-operative haematomas or perichondritis. Incisionless otoplasty seems to be safe and successful in patients with protruding ears and is associated with few complications.
Biography
Vural Fidan has completed his PhD at the age of 23 years from Hacettepe University and Postdoctoral studies from Karadeniz Technical University School of Medicine and Ankara Research Hospital. He is still working at Yunus Emre Goverment Hospital. He has published more than 25 papers in reputed journals and serving as an Editorial Board Member of repute.
